I reread it this week and almost cried throughout. What I didn't realize as a teenager was how well the poems do I first borrowed this book from my local library when I was 14. It was different from any of the other poetry I had been exposed to but I really liked the rhythm of it, which stuck with me for so long that I recently scoured the internet to find this book again even though I'd forgotten everything tangible about it except that it had a black spine and the author's name started with A.
I reread it this week and almost cried throughout. What I didn't realize as a teenager was how well the poems do crystallize the feelings of that age with just the right balance of whimsy and despair. The book captures those moments when you believed (for better and for worse) that the whole world hung on single moments -- a feeling you only move further away from as you get older. ...more
